Website design and development for Hong Kong University School of Biological Sciences. When HKU SBS asked us at Harbour Studios to update their website design and development we knew that the look and functionality had to look fresh and energetic. The primary goal of the site is to attract future students to enrol and so the vibrancy and academic quality of the school had to shine through in the website design.
Currently, the School comprises a total of 39 academic staff, 12 post-doctoral fellows, 140 research students, and a team of 38 technical and administrative staff. The School was formed in 2007 by merging of the Botany, Ecology & Biodiversity and Zoology departments, which have produced many distinguished alumni.
The School offers Major and Minor courses leading to a B.Sc. degree, with specialisations in Biology, Biotechnology, Ecology & Biodiversity, Food & Nutritional Science, and Microbiology. The School also offers three taught postgraduate courses, namely, M.Sc. in Environmental Management, M.Sc. in Food Industry: Management and Marketing, and M.Sc. in Food Safety and Toxicology, which are highly relevant for the employment needs of Hong Kong and the region.
The School is also closely associated with the Swire Institute of Marine Science, a first class marine research facility funded by the Swire group. Harbour Studios is currently updating the website design and development of the SWIMS site as part of our ongoing work with HKU and APRU.
The WordPress based website has many state of the art features such as the interactive staff and faculty directory, the events calendar and the Knowledge Exchange. The website design is responsive for mobile devices, meaning that the layout of the website will change to best fit the smaller screens of a tablet or smart phone.
